What this service is

Basinwise reports publicly published stormwater permit requirements and cites the permit section behind each one. It determines which permit governs a site, runs that permit's eligibility screens where we hold them, and returns the requirements that attach.

The limits below are not fine print. They are the same three statements that appear on the home page and the product page, repeated here because this is the document that binds.

Not legal or engineering advice

Nothing here is legal advice, engineering advice, or a permit. We are not your attorney and not your engineer. Regulatory requirements change, permits are reissued, and local ordinances can be stricter than state law. Confirm against your permitting authority's current permit before you break ground and before you rely on any output.

Where our dataset does not cover a jurisdiction, the output says so and names the agency. Treat that as the answer, not as an invitation to assume the federal position applies.

We do not perform inspections

Permit coverage requires physical inspections by a qualified person on a schedule. We generate the plan and maintain the record; the inspection itself is yours to carry out. Nothing in this service discharges that obligation and nothing in it should be read as doing so.

Credential gated jurisdictions

Some states require a credentialed person to prepare a stormwater pollution prevention plan. Where a credential applies, a document generated here is a draft for that person to review, amend and sign. It is not by itself a compliant filed plan, and the document says so on its face.

You are responsible for establishing whether a credential applies to your project. Our credential register is published with its sources and its gaps, and a jurisdiction shown as not verified has not been confirmed by us.

Your responsibilities

You are the operator. The obligations under your permit remain yours.

• •Give accurate site information. The output is only as good as the acreage, the receiving water answers and the site facts you supply.
• •File your own Notice of Intent and Notice of Termination. We tell you which applies and by when; we do not submit anything on your behalf.
• •Carry out and record inspections on the schedule your permit sets.
• •Keep your account credentials and API keys secure, and revoke a key you believe is compromised.
• •Use the service lawfully, and do not attempt to circumvent rate limits or resell access to the API.

Accounts and plans

Free requires no account. Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe at the price shown on the pricing page, currently $49 a month for Pro. The price displayed is the price charged.

You may cancel at any time from the billing page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for and we do not refund part months. We may change prices with notice, and a change never applies to a period already paid.

Included API call allowances are hard ceilings. When an allowance is reached the API returns a rate limited error. We do not bill for calls beyond an allowance.

Availability

We do not offer a service level agreement and we do not guarantee uptime. The free screening runs in your browser and therefore keeps working even when our servers do not, which is a genuine property of the design rather than a promise about our operations.

Your data and ours

You keep ownership of the site information, records and documents you create. You grant us only the permission needed to store and display them back to you.

The engine, the interface and our compiled datasets remain ours. The underlying permits are public documents and we make no claim over them.

Liability

The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent the law allows, our total liability arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

We are not liable for regulatory penalties, enforcement action, project delay or any consequential loss. The compliance obligation is yours and cannot be transferred to a tool.

Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that abuses the service, attempts to breach its security, or fails to pay. Export your records before closing an account: your permit may require you to retain them for years after coverage ends, and closing the account deletes them.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
