Construction general permit

Which stormwater permit governs construction in your state

Most states run their own NPDES programme and issue their own construction general permit. A handful are not authorised, and EPA's 2022 Construction General Permit governs there directly. Indian country and some federal facilities stay with EPA even inside a delegated state.

What we have verified

We have read the body of EPA's 2022 Construction General Permit, Parts 1 to 9, and hold its requirements with the section behind each one. Its appendices were not in our source extraction, and the methodology page says exactly which. Of the 52 jurisdictions listed below, 39 have a state permit we have read and recorded. The rest render as not verified with a link to the agency, because naming a permit we have not read would be a guess dressed as a fact.

Where EPA is the permitting authority, the answer below is complete: the same federal permit we hold governs, and the requirements are real.

EPA is the permitting authority

Jurisdictions covered by EPA's Construction General Permit

These jurisdictions are not NPDES authorised for construction stormwater, so EPA issues the permit and the federal requirements apply directly.
